Lullaby, and good night ...
There's nothing sweeter than a
lullaby, those silky-soft melodies that
lull babies and small childr en to sleep.
And nothing sweeter than watching a baby fall to
sleep, wondering what he's thinking as he stares up at
you, his eyelids getting heavier. There are no words,
only that precious gaze.
I didn't mean to create an album of lullabies.
I don't usually play such mellow music.
But I wanted to create an album of my favorite Christmas
carols and hymns, the songs that take me
back to my own childhood in St. Paul, Minnesota. The
melodies that remind me of fragrant Christmas trees and
wreaths, of the beautiful stained glass windows in the
church we attended, with the incense heavy in
the air, of the snow falling outside the window and the
fire in the fireplace.
These
melodies for me are sweet, soft meditations. Gentle
lullabies.
After we recorded the album, a few friends of
mine told me that they used it to put their children to
sleep, and that nothing worked better. I'm honored to
have created an album that lulls babies to
dreamland.
There's nothing sweeter ...
